Biotransformation of nitrile offers great potential for synthetic chemists as the enzyme system is able to convert cyano functionality to either an acid or an amide.
Moreover nitrile compounds are commonly used for synthesis of solvents and polymers and are also used as pesticides.These compounds are highly toxic and mutagenic in nature. Therefore need arises to degrade them to avery the various hazards caused by them.
In one lab, activity using various nitrile compounds as susbstrates is being tested.
